Conservative estimates are that interacting with generative AI is about TEN TIMES more than a standard keyword search (obviously, there are some scenarios where the AI results are more than 10 times better than a standard search but the majority are not). A passage from an article in the Scientific American from last October, “if we decide we’re going to do everything on AI, then every data center is going to experience effectively a 10-fold increase in energy consumption.
